My new baby Fjord has arrived and is cute as can be, but she does have warts. She is being quarantined anyway, but is there anything I should do about them or will they just go away eventually?

I had a horse with warts one huge one in his ear and one where the girth goes, had the vet remove them they grew back right away, so the next time i had them removed the vet told me to apply human wart remover to the area every day they never grew back, hope that helps you.

I have had 2 horses that got warts. Both went away on their own. Vet told me that removing them sometimes only makes them worse. Mine were on the muzzles though....don't know if that makes any difference.

Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone.

I left the warts foe a LONG time hoping they would go away the one in the ear grew to golf ball sise the vet called it a sarcoid (sp) which i guess is in the wart family although i could be wrong.

Seems like I remember babies having warts and the vet saying they usually just went away as the foal got older. These were on the muzzle.

These are on the muzzle and nowhere else that I can tell (she's VERY furry). I am planning on having the vet out in a couple of weeks to check them all over, do preg checks on the 2 mares and vaccinate them all but I figured in the meantime you all might know more about them than I do! I seem to remember that babies often to get these, but that's about all I know about them.

i to have seen warts on he muzzle and dont think you need to be discouraged about it they will go away on there own, the vet told my friend she could scrap them off and it would speed up the process but i wouldnt bc her horse cleared up on its own and it didnt take long. If it was a sarcoid you would know it and haze never seen one on the muzzle

Ditto what others have said. One of my guys had the warts as a 2-yr old. I was told not to worry and...they went away!

Yes, they are contagious - but no not every horse will "show" warts. Actually, from what I understand...most don't. They are a baby thing- like chicken pox in people. I have heard that some show barns will expose youngsters to get the warts out of the way before show season. Most adult horses have been exposed by they time they are 3 or 4. You can find a hundred different treatments, just leave them alone. My vet said you can buy a wart treatment and they will go away in about 2 months... you can leave them alone and they will disappear in about 8 weeks.

They are unsightly... but they will be behind you and your baby soon.

Sarcoids and other growths that are sometimes called warts in adult horses are not the same thing as the muzzle/face covering baby warts. The warts babies get do go away completely without any future scarring or issues.

Juvenile warts are best left alone. They will eventually go away on their own. My mare, Autumn, had them as a 2 yr old and they got really nasty. Covered her whole muzzle and grew on top of each other. I was just about at the point where I could not take it anymore and had the vet appt to see if they needed to be removed. He had seen them previously and told me not to worry, they would go away. I went out to the barn the morning of the appt and they were gone as if they had never been there. Not a trace remained, it was just amazing!

Some see the glass as half full... others see it as half empty......... I'm just wondering who the heck has been drinking out of my glass????

My Appaloosa gelding had a sarcoid appear near one eye one spring. My Vet wanted to surgically remove it so the next winter I let her cut it out. I wouldn't have messed with it at all except it kept getting bigger and the horse kept rubbing it on stuff and had it bleeding a lot of the time. The surgical removal didn't help, within 5 or 6 mths it came back and grew very fast. I did some research online and found information that said the best treatments for the type of growth my horse had, were Laser Surgery or Radiation. NCSU Vet School could do Laser Surgery so, I took the horse to NCSU Vet School and they did Laser Surgery, burned a huge hole in his head. They were not sure if they were able to get all of it, but couldn't go any deeper because of the bone and sinuses being close to the area. Eventually it healed and the hole is gone and you can't tell there was every anything there - hair grew back the right colors and all! The Sarcoid hasn't returned in over 1.5 yr, so I consider it successful!

The same horse had a couple of warts in one ear and the Vet at the Vet school told me to leave those alone, but he didn't say that they were Sarcoids, he called them warts.
