I need to clean out some stuff. I remember taking some stuff to the tack exchange, but her website doesn't list any dates this year. I did send her an e-mail. Is there any tack shops that will sale consignment things? Or is there another tack exachange type thing? I think Triange Horse sports did it awhile back.
Any ideas?

| If you plug in the www in front of the name its all about horses (no spaces), it takes you to the website, but it is still a work in progress. Their phone # is 303-5151. HTH. |

They are not all that far from me. It would be so great if they are going to have have a reasonable consignment fee.
I have a BUNCH of show clothes and tack that I need to sell, but I have been so put off by the high % that some of the consignors are charging, that I have been planning to list on Ebay instead. |

| It's fair to pay a consignment fee, and it sounds like there's a selection of vendors to choose from! Best wishes, amandamk. |

| I just listed some horsey things on craiglist but so far haven't even got a nibble. I think this might not be a good time to sell,, maybe later when some people are getting there taxes back. |

It's been a while since I've listed any items, but I know that horse and rider stuff used to sell pretty well on Ebay... That is my 'go to' place to check first when I am looking for almost anything. Detailed descriptions and good photos can really help with getting bids for listings. Weigh boxed items to get accurate shipping costs. I cheated myself quoting too low to ship a saddle one time. Ebay takes a percentage of a sale and PayPal will also take a small percentage of the sale if that is the payment method accepted. Horse stuff is listed under Ebay's Sporting Goods, then Outdoor Sports, then Equestrian, etc. |

I have concerned e-bay, but some of the stuff seems like it wouldn't be worth it. Less expensive stuff like bits, girths, etc.
I did hear back from Lynn with the tack exchange. It will be Sept 2-6 at the Raleigh Fairgrounds.
I did list some stuff on the tradin post and have a meeting set up with someone tomorrow. NCHorseNews is awesome. |

I agree with you about not listing less expensive stuff on Ebay. I remember now that I decided it wasn't worth the time and effort it took me to list items worth less than 10.00, with the packaging and having to take it to the post office and time spent to list items, etc...

The Capital Dressage Classic - June 4-6 at the Raleigh Fairgrounds -- will have a Used Tack and Clothing Consignment Booth -- here's the blurb from the show's website (www(dot)ogs-horsesport.com/2010_CDC.html: The NCDCTA Used Tack and Clothing Booth is a great place to pick up some serious bargains on tack and riding clothing items. Items for the sale are accepted on Thursday from 4-6pm and the booth is open for business during show hours. Unsold items must be picked up by 2:00pm on Sunday or an automatic 10% of the listed price of each item must be paid to NCDCTA. The seller gets 90% of the sale price. Clean out your closet and tack room!
There will be a form to fill out when we are closer to the show date. |

| Don't forget about Double L tack shop in Coats. It's a little far to drive but they only charge 10% fee to sell your stuff. Great bunch of folks there and they have everything you could possibly need for horses in one place. |

robbie, I think 10-15% to sell is great! I have loads of new and used WP (and some English) show clothes and tack I would take to somewhere close that was going to charge me that fee.
I have no problem paying reasonable fees. It's when someone is charging me 25-30% for stuff that it is not worth it to me.
Does anyone know what It's All About Horses is going to charge? |

| Having been involved with consignment tack for many years, 25% commission barely keeps the door open, never mind the person running the shop get paid. You need to keep in mind the cost of insurance, rent, electric, heat, theft (yep, consignment shops get ripped all the time), etc. PLUS if the shop accepts credit/debit cards, an average 3% of the total sale goes to the credit card company, which the retailer pays out. The advantage for the consignor is that they do not have to deal with the public, scammers or shipping hassels...they just need to cash their check when the stuff sells. |

Poe-ny, I totally understand what you are saying, but I can't justify giving someone 30% of a saddle I am selling. (Or anything, for that matter.)
If someone already has a retail location that they can pick up extra $$$ by offering some space for consignment goods (for which they have made no investment in inventory), and charge a reasonable fee for doing so, I think that would bring in both customers and income at very little cost to them.
People are always looking to buy and sell used items at a reasonable cost. When someone puts a 30+% fee in place, I have to raise the price of my item. The whole thing is the main reason I stopped buying anything used at Horse Cents, and never sold anything there. Made more sense to buy new if I was going to pay so much for used... |

| It is a bit away but the State 4-H show in Raleigh has a week long consignment tack sale in July at the show, I think they take either 10 or 15% which goes towards the 4-H program, a good cause! There are TONS of stuff there and tons of buyers! I always take stuff to sell as well as buy stuff there. |

I sell stuff at the 4-H State Show as well. I believe last year the consignment fee increased to 20%, still a bargain.
Another great place to sell, but is in September is the Equestrian Exchange, the consignment fee is 25%. |

Easiest way to load pics is put them in a special folder on your Desktop. Then hit Browse, go to Desktop, and open the special folder you made for pics. Click on the pic, then open and it should upload right away.
Hopes this helps. I do a lot of forum work and post pics quite often. But I also sell on Craig's List and to be honest, they upload procedure is very simple compared to many others. |

I'm in non-horse-related business, it's very common for people to want an unreasonable trade-in, or consigmnent price, for their used equipment. They remember the retail price they paid, how good the equipment is, the good times they had with it, etc..It's unrelated to the current market value of used equipment. Once you leave the retail floor, the equipment is worth less. If used, even less. If found in the open market, less. If there's been a recall, or service problem, less. I'm truly not being negative, only realistic. It's not worth what you paid for it any longer. Keep it, use it, enjoy it, for as long as possible. Put miles on it. The newest gizmo available will change soon, anyway. |
