My daughter has the opportunity to go to a show and I have been asked if I can trailer the horse (lesson horse from our barn) there. Is there an apporpriate way for me to ask if I will get a break on the normal fee to use their horse in trade for my trailering it there, or should I just be glad she has a horse to use (for a fee). Do not want to cause any waves or ruffle any feathers. Just wondering if anyone has ever done this before.

| Is she the only one using the horse? How I usually see it done is that you pay a fee for the horse and then pay for trailering separately. If someone else is riding the horse, then Id ask them to pay part of the trailering. |
You cannot train a horse with shouts, and then expect him to obey a whisper. |

| I am not sure if she will be the only one riding the horse, it is a possibility. It sounded like the horse would be available and they asked if I would be able to trailer it to the show. We would be trailering it, just not sure what the trailering fee should be. Would I charge another rider for trailering it for them, or work out something with the barnowner to barter out our (ridsing) fee for using the horse? Just trying to figure out what to do. Don't want to insult anyone. |

I think I'm confused. Maybe. Your daughter is paying a fee to ride a horse at a show. You are trailering it to the show.
IMO, for that fee you pay to use the horse for that amount of money, the horse is essentially yours for that time frame. And so no, you wouldn't get paid, or get a break on the fee because you are trailering your "own" horse. Has the fee to ride the horse at a show in the past included the fee for trailering? In that case, you could just say, what part of the fee was for the trailering, and then would you take it out of the fee to ride the horse for the show?
If I'm reading that correctly, that's how I'd see it. |

| Outlaw, yes, she is riding it in the show and the barn owner asked if I could trailer it there because I am one of the few people involved in the show that has my own trailer just no horse. I like the way you put it and I may just approach it from that angle. |

The horse isn't your's so you should get compensated in some way for trailering the horse. Figure up how much you would charge strictly to trailer the horse. Then compare it to the fee your daughter would pay to show the horse. Have all that information on hand then talk to the BO. There are 4 variables here. The cost of the usage fee for the horse, what that fee includes, if anyone else is using the horse, and how much you would charge to haul the horse. |
